Catedral de San José de David
Here in Panamá there are many places for a traveler to visit. The larger cities like Panamá City, Colón and Boquete all have their well known historic sites or you can visit several nature parks throughout the country.
Here in David I was told to visit the San José Church. The church itself is not much older than 25 years, but the tower is much older and is desigated as a National Historical Landmark.
We began on a street looking at an arch way that was the entrance to a groomed walkway used for religious holiday processions and for people to just sit and relax.
After the second set of arches, we saw a stone tower with a cross on the top and the church. The tower was commissioned in 1889 by the vicar a Miguel Ortega Alcocer. He selected and Italian architech named José Belli and the tower was finally completed in December of 1891. Because of it’s hight over 75 feet, it was used as a watchtower during the Thousand Days War (1899-1902).
The church is constructed of a stone facade and several stained glass windows. The inside is painted in frescos along both sides with a simple but beautiful alter in the front.
Leaving the church off to the left, is a park named after Simon Bolivar. played a key role in the Latin American Wars of Independence from Spanish colonial rule during the early 19th century. Bolívar is often referred to as “El Libertador” (The Liberator) due to his significant contributions to the liberation of several South American countries.
Strolling through this well groomed park with several benches and a pavilion for entertainment. Directily in front is the local police station, which I’m sure helps keep the park free of problems.
Within the city of David, the tower standss as a rare historical gem. The tower, along with the adjacent church and park, provides a pleasant retreat for the communitry, offering both a place for worship and the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.

Hey would you mind stating which blog platform you’re
working with? I’m going to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having
a tough time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I’m looking
for something unique. P.S My apologies
for being off-topic but I had to ask!
Hi,
No problem with you asking, I like talking shop.
I’m using WordPress for this site.
